On Monday Manny led us on a tour of the building you see pictured above. At one time it did serve as their capitol building and it did have a senate meeting on one side and a congress which meant on the other. But supposedly it definitely is NOT fashioned after another capitol building to the north of here.
One interesting sight was in one of the interior courtyards. There is a statue of satan. Right there in plain view. It's an indicator of some of the spiritual obstacles the believers face here.
The early slaves brought over their voodoo from Africa - today it's practiced here as santeria. Manny's main worker says it is quite prevalent, but we've not seen much evidence of it other than one white-robed priestess we drove past the other day.
Yet another reason to stand behind what is happening here in prayer...!
